How I’m slowing down, resetting, and easing back into real life after vacation
There’s always something a little strange about coming home from vacation.
A few days ago, I was in Aruba — spending my mornings outside with iced coffee, snorkeling in crystal clear water, staying off my phone more than usual, and fully slipping into that slower vacation mindset.
And honestly? Coming home felt harder than I expected.
Not in a dramatic way… but in the “my laundry is piled up, my inbox is full, my routine feels off, and I suddenly forgot how to be productive again” kind of way.
I think after traveling, especially somewhere warm and relaxing, there’s always this pressure to immediately jump back into normal life at full speed. But this year, I’m trying really hard not to do that.
Instead of rushing back into everything, I’ve been leaning into slower spring weekends — weekends that feel calming, cozy, and actually restorative instead of packed with errands and pressure to “catch up.”
So today I wanted to share what my slow spring weekend routine has been looking like lately ☕🌿
Not a perfect routine.
Not a super productive routine.
Just small things that help me feel more grounded again after vacation and ease back into everyday life a little more gently.

☕ Starting the Morning Slowly
One thing vacation reminded me of is how much I miss slow mornings when life gets busy.
In Aruba, mornings felt easy. We’d grab coffee, sit outside, and take our time before deciding what we wanted to do for the day. No rushing, multitasking, or immediately jumping into emails.
So since coming home, I’ve been trying to recreate little pieces of that feeling here.
Lately my ideal spring weekend morning looks like:
- Opening the windows first thing
- Making an iced latte at home
- Lighting a candle while the house is still quiet
- Catching up on blogs or Pinterest
- Spending a little less time on my phone
- Easing into the day instead of immediately trying to be productive

As a former barista, coffee has always been part of my routine, but lately it feels more intentional again. More like a ritual than just caffeine.
I’ve been making a lot of homemade spring drinks lately too — especially iced lattes with homemade syrups and cold foam. It makes staying home feel a little more special.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately, I really think slowing your mornings down by even 20 minutes can make such a difference.
🌿 Resetting My Space After Traveling

Coming home after vacation always makes me want to reset everything.
Not in an extreme deep-cleaning way… but in a “I need my space to feel calm again” kind of way.
The first weekend back from Aruba, I spent most of Saturday doing simple reset tasks:
- Unpacking suitcases
- Washing laundry
- Grocery shopping
- Watering plants
- Cleaning out the fridge
- Restocking coffee supplies- this season I’ve been refreshing my coffee bar setup to feel a little lighter and more spring-inspired
- Changing the sheets
- Reorganizing my coffee bar
Nothing exciting — but honestly, these little routines always help me feel like myself again.
Spring always makes me want my home to feel lighter too. More open windows, fresh air, cleaner counters, less clutter.
I’ve also been trying to stop treating weekends like a giant to-do list.
Instead of trying to do everything in one day, I’ve been spacing things out more and letting weekends feel slower again.
And honestly? I feel way less burnt out because of it.
🥗 Simple Spring Meals & Grocery Restocks

After vacation, I always crave simpler meals again.
Vacation food is amazing… but eventually I start wanting routine foods again — fresh ingredients, easy bowls, snacks in the fridge, iced coffee at home, and meals that make me feel good instead of overly full all the time.
So lately I’ve been getting back into:
- High-protein bowls
- Roasted vegetables
- Marinated chickpeas
- Easy meal prep
- Smoothies
- Spring fruit
- Simple breakfast plates
- Quick homemade lunches
Nothing complicated.
Just meals that feel fresh and realistic.
I’ve also been trying to make grocery shopping feel less rushed lately too. More farmer’s market energy… less stress shopping at 5 PM.
One thing I loved about Aruba was how much time we spent outside, walking around, slowly finding places to eat or grab coffee instead of rushing through the day.
I’m trying to bring a little of that mindset home with me this spring.
🚶♀️ Getting Outside More Again

This is probably the biggest thing I’m trying to carry home from vacation.
Being outside more.
I always forget how much better I feel when I’m outside consistently.
Even something as simple as:
- Walking to grab coffee
- Sitting outside for 15 minutes
- Going for an evening walk after dinner
- Visiting a farmer’s market
- Driving to the coast
- Reading outside instead of on the couch
completely changes my mood.
Now that spring is finally showing up in New England again, I’ve been trying to spend more weekends exploring locally instead of automatically staying inside all day.
Some of my favorite spring spots lately have been:
Even just grabbing a coffee and walking around for an hour makes weekends feel so much better.
🌙 Ending the Weekend More Calmly
Sunday nights used to stress me out so much.
I’d spend the whole night thinking about Monday instead of actually relaxing.
Lately, I’ve been trying to make Sunday evenings feel calmer and slower instead of chaotic.
Usually that looks like:
- Showering early
- Skincare + red light mask
- Making tea or another coffee
- Watching a comfort show
- Stretching
- Cleaning the kitchen before bed
- Planning meals for the week
- Putting my phone down earlier
Nothing groundbreaking — but these little routines help me start the week feeling more grounded instead of already overwhelmed.
And honestly, after vacation, I think that’s exactly what I needed.
Not a massive life reset.
Not an unrealistic routine.
I’ve been trying to lean more into slow spring living lately instead of constantly feeling rushed.
Final Thoughts ☕🌸
I think spring always reminds me that life doesn’t have to feel so rushed all the time.
Coming home from Aruba made me realize how much happier I feel when I slow down a little — when I spend more time outside, stop multitasking constantly, and make everyday routines feel more intentional again.
So this season, I’m really leaning into slower weekends, cozy routines, local exploring, and simple habits that make life feel lighter.
And honestly? I think this version of spring feels a lot better already 🤍
