January always brings that fresh start feeling — but instead of trying to change everything at once, I’m focusing on a few small, realistic habits that actually fit into my everyday life.
No extreme resets. No rigid rules. Just simple habits that make me feel a little more grounded, nourished, and calm after the chaos of the holidays.
Here are five habits I’m building this January — and ones I know I can carry with me well beyond the new year.
1. Cooking One Nourishing Meal on Repeat Each Week

Instead of meal planning every single dinner, I’m choosing one balanced, go-to meal each week that I can make on repeat.
Right now, that’s my Greek Chicken Bowl — it checks all the boxes:
- High-protein
- Full of fresh veggies
- Easy to prep ahead
- Actually something I want to eat
Having one reliable meal makes weeknight cooking feel effortless and takes the pressure off “figuring out dinner.”

2. Starting My Mornings Without Rushing
I’m not waking up at 5 a.m. or reinventing my entire morning routine — I’m just giving myself a little breathing room to start the day intentionally.
One habit I’ve been loving is taking my homemade morning wellness shot each morning, on an empty stomach, before eating or even drinking my coffee. It’s become a small but grounding ritual that helps me ease into the day feeling refreshed and energized.

I make one batch a week, which makes this habit feel realistic and easy to stick to.
Here’s how I make it:
- I juice 2 lemons, 1 orange, and fresh ginger root
- In a large mason jar, I mix the fresh juice with:
- 1 tablespoon turmeric
- ½ teaspoon cayenne
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 16 oz coconut water
- I shake everything together and split it into 2 oz portions for the week
It takes about 10 minutes once a week, and having it ready in the fridge makes my mornings feel calmer and more intentional. After my wellness shot, I move on to coffee and breakfast — without rushing.
Paired with sipping my coffee slowly and staying off my phone first thing, this simple routine shift has made my mornings feel more peaceful and set a positive tone for the rest of the day.
This wellness shot is part of my personal routine and shared for inspiration only. I’m not a medical professional, and this is not intended as medical advice. Always listen to your body and consult a healthcare professional if you have specific health concerns.
3. Moving My Body Gently, Not Intensely
This January, my focus has shifted from intense workouts to moving my body consistently — even on days when I’m not formally working out.
One habit I’m prioritizing is getting in 10,000 steps a day, whether that’s through structured walks or small pockets of movement throughout my routine. I’ve found that breaking it up makes it feel much more doable.

Some of the ways I try to hit my step goal include:
- Taking a walking break during my work day– sometimes just a walk down the street to my favorite coffee shop
- Walking my dog in the evenings after my work day ends
- Spending time on my treadmill doing an incline walk
I’ve especially loved pairing movement with things I’d already be doing anyway. When I want to wind down later in the day and watch something on TV, I’ll hop on the treadmill and get some steps in at the same time — it turns into a cozy, low-pressure way to move without feeling like a workout.
For more intentional workouts, I’m also trying the 3-2-1 Method, a weekly routine that feels sustainable and energizing. It includes:
- 3 Pilates workouts
- 2 strength training sessions
- 1 low-impact cardio day
Between daily steps and a few intentional workouts each week, movement has started to feel supportive instead of stressful — and that’s exactly the energy I’m carrying into the new year.
4. Drinking More Water (In a Way That Actually Works)

Instead of forcing myself to drink plain water all day, I’ve been focusing on making hydration feel easier — and honestly, more enjoyable.
A few things that have helped:
- Using my favorite fashionable water bottles that hold at least 24 oz, so I’m naturally drinking more without constantly refilling
- Adding things I love to my water — electrolytes, citrus, or flavor boosters
- Drinking a full glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning- also great for digestion!
5. Creating a Cozy Evening Wind-Down

One habit I’m being more intentional about this year is actually taking time to wind down at night instead of rushing through the end of the day.
For me, that looks like turning my evenings into a calm transition — lighting a candle, putting my phone down, and giving myself time for my skincare routine. One step I’ve been prioritizing is doing my red light therapy each night, which has become a simple way to slow down and signal that the day is done.
I always pair this routine with a warm drink, usually my favorite decaf peppermint green tea. It’s become part of my nightly rhythm and helps make the whole routine feel cozy and intentional without affecting my sleep.
I share my skincare routine strictly as part of my personal wind-down and self-care habits — not as medical or professional advice. I only use products that feel good for my skin and fit into my lifestyle, and I always encourage listening to your own skin and comfort level.
Even when I’m tired, taking a few minutes for this routine helps me feel more grounded and consistent. It’s less about doing everything perfectly and more about creating an evening rhythm that feels relaxing and sustainable.
Pairing skincare with a cozy environment — soft lighting, a warm drink, and no rushing — has made my evenings something I genuinely look forward to.

A Gentle Start to the New Year
This year, I’m really trying to let go of the pressure to “do it all” right away. Instead, I’m focusing on small habits that fit into my actual life — the ones that make my days feel calmer, more balanced, and a little more intentional.
For me, that looks like cooking simple meals I know I’ll come back to, moving my body in ways that feel good, slowing down my mornings, and giving myself permission to truly wind down at night. None of it is perfect, and that’s kind of the point.
If you’re easing into the new year too, I hope this post feels like a reminder that it’s okay to start slow. Habits don’t have to be extreme to be meaningful — sometimes the simplest ones are the ones that last the longest.
Here’s to a softer start, routines that feel good, and a year built around what actually works 🤍
